DA Tucker announces continued office leadership
Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announced Wednesday - his first official day in office - that he’s retaining the senior trial, appellate and administrative leaders who have been serving county residents.
During a staff meeting live-streamed to outlying DA offices countywide, Tucker said Mary-Alice Doyle will remain as First Assistant District Attorney. Kim Faitella also will continue as Deputy First Assistant.
In addition, James Gubitose, Chief, Superior Court Division; Cathy Semel, Chief, Appeals Division; William Melkonian, Chief, Motor Vehicle Crimes; Kate MacDougall, Chief, Family Crimes Unit; Maureen Wilson Leal, Chief, Victim Witness Services & Juvenile Court; Jessica Strasnick, Co-Chief, Homicide Unit; Andrew J. Camelio, Co-Chief, Homicide Unit; Dawn Gigante-Masterson, Director, Juvenile Justice Programs; Maureen Colby, Chief of Administration and Finance; and Meghan Carpenter, Director, Human Resources.
Tucker told a group assembled in the Main Office in Salem that a priority will be staff training and enrichment.
“If you have an expertise in something, if you have an interest in something, part of what I see with my job is to make sure that we nurture that, and to make sure that folks want to stay here.”
Earlier in the day, Tucker formally took the DA’s oath of office at Nichols Village in Groveland at the beginning of a meeting of the Essex County Chiefs of Police Association.
The luncheon coincided with the constitutionally prescribed timing for the oath-taking. On Monday, Tucker appeared before a crowd of several hundred gathered at Salem High School for a ceremonial swearing-in.
The new DA told the chiefs’ meeting that he planned to travel to each of their communities for listening sessions with the community leader, the police chief and the school superintendent.
Tucker said he hoped the meetings would allow them to share the challenges they face and also allow his team to connect patterns that may be plaguing different communities.
