Lynn man convicted of child abuse
A Lynn man has been convicted of 12 felony counts for raping and sexually abusing children, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announced.
William Forbes, 69, of 720 Lynnfield Street was convicted of all counts on Monday by a Salem Superior Court jury. He had been indicted in 2021 on charges of abusing two victims in Lynn.
The charges included multiple counts of rape of a child; assault to rape; indecent assault and battery on a person under 14; and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over.
Forbes’s bail was revoked and he was taken into custody before sentencing on May 19.
The conviction came after a four-day trial starting April 25.
The Commonwealth was represented by Assistant District Attorney Maria Markos, with assistance from Victim Witness Advocate Amy Snow and Lynn Police Detective Roger Tinkham.
Forbes was represented by attorney Thomas Burke III of Salem. Judge Jeffrey Karp presided over the trial.
