Derick Jimenez Sentenced to 17 Years to Life for Murder of Dajan Gilmore Jones

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SALEM, Mass. – April 9, 2025 – In Superior Court in Salem today, Derick Jesus Jimenez, 28, of Lynn was sentenced to 17 years to life in state prison for the murder of Dajan Gilmore Jones, a Lynn resident who was 24 at the time of his death, the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announces. The Hon. Kathleen McCarthy-Neyman delivered the sentence. An Essex County jury found Jimenez guilty of murder in the second degree on Tuesday, January 21.

On September 6, 2020, Gilmore Jones died of complications related to the shooting. Jimenez shot Gilmore Jones on April 9, 2014. Jimenez was represented by attorney John Morris. Assistant District Attorney Mary Eileen Spano prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. In addition to Spano, the Commonwealth was represented by Chief of Homicide Unit Jessica Strasnick and Chief of Victim and Witness Services Maureen Leal.
