Authorities Investigate Fatal Shooting on Water Street in Lawrence

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAWRENCE, Mass. – September 16, 2024 – The Lawrence Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker are currently investigating the fatal shooting of Steven Hernandez, 33, of Lawrence, on the 300 block of Water Street in Lawrence. Lawrence Police responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

Hernandez was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was treated on scene by EMTs before being transferred by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
