Essex County Summer Day Camp to Celebrate 30 Years of Fun July 22-August 2

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PEABODY, Mass. – July 22, 2024 – The Essex County Summer Day Camp, sponsored by the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and local police departments, will celebrate its 30th anniversary season this summer when it welcomes campers from Monday, July 22 through Friday, August 2. The camp, held at Higgins Middle School in Peabody, will welcome a record number of students—approximately 500—from throughout Essex County who will be entering fifth grade.

The camp, which is free to registered students, is enabled by in-kind donations from local restaurants and businesses and volunteer participation from many local police department school resource officers in Essex County. It includes presentations from the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, the Anti-Defamation League, and local K-9 units. In addition, the Peabody Fire Department, along with other local firefighters and emergency medical personnel who have volunteered, will lead a hands-on fire safety and emergency response presentation.

While the camp emphasizes public safety and topics such as preventing violence, bullying, and drug use, it is primarily focused on providing safe, fun, and free activities to kids. This year’s agenda includes a presentation from Rainforest Reptiles, a laser light show by Prismatic Magic, bowling, a field day, trips to the New England Aquarium and to the movies, ice cream sundaes, and a group talent show, among other activities. Police officers from departments in Beverly, Danvers, Georgetown, Ipswich, Lynn, Lynnfield, Marblehead, Peabody, Gloucester, Salem, Saugus, and Swampscott will be involved in daily presentations and facilitating the fun.

“This has been an annual tradition in Essex County for 30 years now, and we are happy to have a full, fun lineup of activities for the kids this year,” says Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker. “This camp is possible thanks to donations from local businesses and the time and care of our many school, law enforcement, fire, and medical volunteers and partners. The commitment to the kids that we see from everyone involved is one of the things that makes Essex County a great place to live.”
